CETAF42 GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN HERAKLION
On 3-4 October 2017, the Natural History Museum of Crete, University of Crete (NHMC-UoC) hosted the 42nd CETAF General Assembly at their Exhibition Halls in Heraklion, Greece.
The beginning of the meeting was marked by a warm welcome from Odysseas Zoras, Rector of the University of Crete, Catherina Voreadou (NHM Crete), who organised the meeting and who acts as CETAF representative for NHMC-UoC, and Mrs Lena Borboudakis, Director of the NHMC Exhibition Halls. Opening the actual meeting was CETAF Chair, Michelle Price, who showed her gratitude to the host and praised the participants for the high turn-out. With 53 participants from 30 CETAF members representing the European natural science institutions, the meeting demonstrated that the CETAF community is a strong one with institutions that are dedicated to further their ambitions for the benefit of natural science collections and taxonomic expertise.
The two-day meetings were highlighted by the presentation of the CETAF Framework for Responsible Research and Innovation, the listing of proposed actions that will be undertaken in the coming years, the publishing workshop which will generate new guidelines for CETAF institutions, the Achievements Report, and others. The recent success of CETAF on the European research landscape, namely the submission of the DiSSCo proposal for inclusion on the ESFRI roadmap update 2018 and the positive evaluation of the ICEDIG proposal, were also celebrated appropriately.
Furthermore, the CETAF42 General Assembly gained some honourable mentions in Greek media (e.g. in Patris, ERT, CretaLive, CandiaNews) showing the importance of the organisation for European collections in the light of biodiversity and conservation.
